CAS Reflection

Thoughts on accounting software
Its our first try to do an accounting software project. Accounting was only done on pen and paper all the years of doing accounts. It was definitely a different challenge on all the projects we ever done.

Contributions mainly on: AR opening balance, invoice batch list and receipts.

The project meetings we had:

11 jun
It was our first meeting we had. We started off with the customers groupings for AR and AP. We then went on to complete the AR and AP setup. A few new accounts were also added in the database.

12 jun
On the second meeting, I entered opening invoices in the AR system. Other openings balance of AP & GL were also enter.

While we took turns to enter our part for the opening balances, others were discussing on the double entries for the source documents that was planned to be entered in the next meeting.

16 jun
We entered the journal entries in GL batch list. We took extra caution on which entries are suppose to be entered in the different systems.

1 jul
My part was to enter new invoices into the AR system. Others such as AP invoices, receipts and payment were done. When somebody was typing, other group members read out the details for example the dates. Thos actually speeds up work pace as compared to 1 person doing all by himself or herself.

2 Jul
We did the recurring and adjustment entries for today.
After which, we started entering our transactions in the GL data entry form. It was definitely a very tedious process so we took turns to do the typing. Even adjusting these entries to their proper spaces of the given template can be rather infuriating.

3 jul
We did the first part of the project on theory. I must admit the theory was not easy as I thought to be. We gave our opinion on what we felt the answer to be right and had a interesting discussion.

13 Jul
Luckily we are able to make changes to the parts that we made errors in. we were very fearful of making errors because our backups had batches that were already posted. We also tried doing the void cheque but nothing it was solved.

15 Jul
It was our last meeting we had to complete everything that was left undone. We finally completed our void chequeJ . By then we were so ready to post all the batches. So we printed out our report on the same day. There was really lots to print, I never printed so many pages before man! Theory final editing was also concluded.

Thoughts after the project

The process of doing Accpac was indeed a memorable one. Though we had a great time doing the project, we spend quality time and efficiently do when work has to be done. Another thing that leaves an impression on me is going to be the atmosphere we had when all the different groups were busy doing their projects.

Time was absolutely another factor we had to manage well because finding a computer can be a problem when so many groups are also doing the project.

I have learnt to be cautious yet confident at the same time after doing the project. Situations like dealing the stress together were also encountered to deal with one problem at a time.

In conclusion I felt each member was significant to the group.
